Finally, we’ll reveal why starting a podcast in 2023 is advantageous for business growth due to rising popularity, diversified content strategies, improved technology making podcasting accessible—and essential tools & platforms every podcaster should know about.

Before we dive into that...

I personally run two podcasts. The Elite Recruiter Podcast and the Decentralized Careers Podcast.

The Elite Recruiter Podcast is set up as an interview-style podcast. I bring in industry leaders from across the recruiting space to share stories of how they got to where they are and tips and tricks to help other recruiters get ahead. For me it's a fun passion project that one day I should probably do more with... But 75 episodes in, I am having a blast.

The Decentralized Careers Podcast was actually built as a secret play for the long game for business development. Just like the Elite Recruiter Podcast, it's an interview-style podcast with industry leaders within the Web 3.0 space.  While most recruiters are relying on 10,000 cold emails a month. I am bringing on leaders and hiring managers that are excited to share their stories and talk about their companies. Most leaders come on podcasts and understand that another avenue for content helps them out. What is funny is that by the 5th episode, many people in the industry started to look at me as an authority in the space, and hiring managers started to reach out to me for help with hiring. Even though it was a short project. It had a huge impact and made me believe that setting up a podcast even if it's short, is a secret weapon to get ahead.

Before we dive in there are some other great examples of Podcasts being used as a secret weapon for business development. Check them out here:

The Power of Podcasting for New Businesses

Podcasting is a powerful medium that offers accessibility, intimacy, and the ability to build deep connections with listeners. With over 80 million Americans tuning in weekly, podcasting presents an opportunity for new businesses to reach a wider audience and establish trust and credibility.

Accessibility of podcasts

One major advantage of podcasts is their ease of access. Listeners can tune in from various platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Podcasts. This convenience allows your content to be available anytime, anywhere - whether they're commuting, working out or simply relaxing at home.

Building deep connections with listeners

  • Telling stories: Sharing personal experiences and anecdotes helps create an emotional connection between you and your audience. This storytelling approach fosters loyalty among listeners who feel like they know you on a deeper level.
  • Demonstrating expertise: By providing valuable insights into industry trends or offering practical advice related to your field, you showcase your knowledge while building trust among potential customers.
  • Involving guests: Inviting experts or influencers within your niche adds variety to the conversation while enhancing credibility by association. Conducting interviews also opens up opportunities for cross-promotion through social media channels.

Incorporating these elements into your podcast strategy not only keeps audiences engaged but also positions you as an authority in your field. By leveraging your authority in the field, you can draw in more listeners and potential customers who will likely invest in what you have to offer.

Expanding Reach through Podcasts

Launching a podcast can help break geographical barriers and convey your message globally. As time becomes more precious, on-the-go consumption appeals to busy individuals, significantly expanding your potential listener base.

Breaking Geographical Barriers

Podcasts are accessible to listeners worldwide, allowing businesses to reach audiences beyond their local markets. This global reach helps companies establish brand recognition and attract customers from various regions. For example, Nielsen research shows that podcasts have the power to engage diverse demographics across different countries.

The Convenience of Consuming Content On-The-Go

The ability to listen to podcasts while commuting, exercising or performing daily tasks makes them an attractive medium for today's fast-paced society. According to a 2023 Edison Research report, 58% of podcast consumers listen while driving or traveling, making it an ideal platform for reaching busy professionals who value convenience in content consumption.

Incorporating Podcasts into Marketing Strategies

  • Create engaging content: Develop compelling episodes that resonate with your target audience by addressing their pain points and providing valuable insights. Every single podcast episode can easily turn into a month of content. You have the audio version of the podcast and the video version of it. You can create short clips for different social media channels. Each podcast can easily be turned into an article or multiple articles. Almost every podcast we have recorded has created incredible quotes and those quotes or questions can easily be turning into social media short videos.
  • Promote strategically: Leverage social media platforms and email marketing campaigns to share new episodes with existing followers and attract new listeners.
  • Cross-promote with other podcasts and industry leaders: Collaborate with complementary podcasters and industry leaders to expand your reach by featuring each other's content or conducting joint interviews.
  • Optimize for search: Ensure your podcast is easily discoverable on popular platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts by using relevant keywords in episode titles and descriptions.

Through podcasting, businesses can gain increased visibility, reach a wider audience and create a strong presence in the current market.

Establish Trust and Credibility with Your Audience

Sharing your expertise, experiences, and stories through podcasts allows businesses to showcase their industry knowledge while positioning themselves as authorities in their field. This trust leads to increased customer loyalty and brand advocacy. To establish trust and credibility with your audience, consider the following subheadings of the types of podcast that you would like to share:

  • Expert Insights: Share valuable information that showcases your expertise in a specific area or industry. For example, discuss trends, best practices, case studies or provide actionable tips that listeners can apply immediately.
  • Personal Stories: Connect with your audience on a deeper level by sharing personal anecdotes related to business challenges you've faced or successes you've achieved. These stories humanize your brand and make it more relatable for listeners.
  • Influencer Interviews: Invite experts from within your niche or complementary industries onto the podcast as guests. Their insights not only add value but also lend credibility to both parties involved in the conversation. Make sure to choose reputable guests who are respected within their fields - this will reflect positively on you as well.

To support these strategies further, include relevant links within show notes accompanying each episode using anchor text accurately describing linked content such as articles mentioned during discussions (Example Article Title) or resources for additional learning (Resource Name). By providing valuable content backed up by credible sources and engaging conversations with industry leaders, podcasts can be an effective tool for building trust among potential customers while establishing yourself as an authority figure within the market space.

Driving Traffic & Lead Generation Through Podcasts

Strategic planning makes podcasting a powerful lead generation tool by directing listeners to websites or landing pages during or after the episode. Reaching consumers at different stages of the buyer's journey increases opportunities for conversion. Let's explore some key aspects that contribute to driving traffic and generating leads through podcasts.

Direct Website Traffic from Podcasts

An effective way to drive website traffic is by mentioning your website, blog, or landing page during your podcast episodes. You can also include these links in your show notes, making it easy for listeners to access relevant resources and learn more about your business offerings. This not only boosts web traffic but also enhances user engagement with your brand.

Target Audiences at Various Stages of Buyer's Journey

To encourage conversion, creating content that is tailored to the awareness, consideration and decision-making phases of a buyer's journey can be an effective way to drive purchase decisions. By providing valuable insights and information tailored specifically for each stage via podcasts, you are more likely to guide them towards making a purchase decision.

Incorporate Calls-to-Action (CTAs)

Including clear calls-to-action (CTAs) within podcast episodes encourages listeners to take specific actions such as signing up for newsletters or downloading exclusive content like whitepapers or e-books. These CTAs should be concise yet compelling enough so that they resonate with the audience and prompt them into action.

Leverage Guest Appearances on Other Podcasts

Besides hosting your own podcast series, consider appearing as a guest on other popular podcasts related to your industry niche. This helps broaden exposure among new audiences who may be interested in your products or services. Ensure to provide valuable insights during these guest appearances and mention your website or landing page, thus driving more traffic and generating potential leads.

Collaborate with Influencers

Partnering with influencers who have a strong following can significantly boost the visibility of your podcast episodes. By collaborating on content creation, you tap into their established audience base while providing them an opportunity to share their expertise on your platform - a win-win situation for both parties involved.
